Galleries – 8 Free CSS, Bootstrap & Tailwind Sets
Galleries is a pack of eight sets of image galleries, designed and maintained in-house by uiCookies, with no gallery or lightbox library in any of them. Every set comes in three versions that look the same: plain HTML and CSS, Bootstrap 5 using its grid, .ratio, .modal and .carousel where they fit, and Tailwind CSS 4. The sets cover responsive photo grids, masonry layouts, a lightbox, a thumbnail viewer that needs no JavaScript, slideshows, hover effects, a dark photographer's portfolio and a category filter built with :has().
A good image gallery describes its pictures: every photo needs alt text that says what is in it, not a file name or the word photo. It never hides information behind a mouse, so a caption that appears on hover also appears on keyboard focus and is simply shown on touch screens. A lightbox should be a real modal dialog that takes focus, closes with Esc and gives focus back to the thumbnail, and its thumbnails should still link to the large photo when the script fails. Finally, it keeps the photos' shapes honest with aspect-ratio and object-fit, so the page does not jump while images load and nothing is stretched.
